CalgaryWalks & Bus Tours

You can get to know Calgary from a bus or walking tour.  Sometimes it's best to walk the streets to discover Calgary's secrets and sometimes it's best to jump on the bus and explore the distances.  Either way, it's best to do that with a knowledgeable guide leading the way.

Our guides will give you an entertaining, informative experience that brings our city alive as only a face-to-face introduction can.  You’ll learn about the landmarks and public spaces that make Calgary an evocative blend of the old and new west.  You’ll also discover where to dine and shop as well – and how to get around downtown for free.

Join one of our experienced guides as we explore everything Calgary’s dynamic downtown has to offer. Our tours fill up, so book now to walk with us on your desired date.

Exploring Calgary by bus lets you sit back, ignore the traffic and just take in the scenery and stories you see and hear so that you can get the most out of your visit to Calgary.

If you’re interested in a group booking, or perhaps looking for a tour of a special or undiscovered location in Calgary, get in touch with us so we can create the tour especially suited to your needs.

Downtown Intro Walk Tour

CalgaryWalks, things to do in Calgary, Calgary attractions, walking tours Calgary

DESCRIPTION:

Every building tells a story.  Calgary’s downtown spins a yarn of a brash frontier town that has grown into a lively urban center.  Walk with us (outside as weather permits – or inside using our +15 Skywalk network) as we straddle with one foot in the past and one in the present, following a “ribbon of steel” through the heart of the city.

As your tour guide navigates around such areas as Stephen Avenue Mall (no cars allowed from 6 am to 6 pm), the Bow River Pathway, and other downtown areas, you’ll have an on-the-ground experience that Google Earth could never deliver.  You’ll learn where Calgarians go for fine food and dining and discover some favourite spots to shop downtown.  We’ll even talk about accessing free public transit in the downtown core to make your own exploring more enjoyable.

You may hear the echoes of history at the site of an 1880s sawmill and the location of the 1988 Winter Olympics awards ceremonies – and perhaps modern-day music from the Folk Fest held at Prince’s Island Park.

Your tour guide will lead the group at a comfortable pace and make several stops, including bathroom breaks as needed.

Winter Season and Cold Weather:  During our winter season (these dates can vary), we use our indoor +15 Skywalk network to minimize exposure to outside temperatures and conditions.  As such, during the winter months, this tour can only operate Mondays to Fridays when the +15 Skywalk network is open and available unless you have made prior arrangements with us.

DURATION: Approx. 2 hours | LEVEL 1: Easy | GROUP SIZE: 10 or so (For larger groups please get in touch with us to plan your tour.)

Post by CalgaryWalks co-founder and former lead guide, Scott – April 2015

We received a call, seemingly out of the blue, from KSPS producer/photographer Bill Fitzner, who expressed to us that he would like to feature CalgaryWalks on his show, NorthWest Profiles.

After a couple of chats with Bill, it was clear that this would be a great (and FUN) opportunity to showcase who we are and what we do, for a broader audience. With that, we scheduled Bill to join us for a tour late in the summer and to film the proceedings (as well as a few extra bits).

We were thrilled to discover last week that our episode had aired!

What a blast we had both with Bill, and the guests on tour that day. See for yourself!

Update

Several years ago, Calgary Walks became CalgaryWalks & Bus Tours and today is one of Calgary’s premier choices for Walk and Bus Tours.  The committment to and passion for Calgary that Scott and Joanne shared in earlier years carries on today.  Let us show you why we love Calgary too!

Guest post by CalgaryWalks co-founder and former lead guide, Scott – July 2014

Hello all,

What a week it was last week!

We hosted the largest “organic” tour (by “organic” we mean it wasn’t a large group booking, but rather a bunch of small bookings) in our brief history with 10 guests, were visited and filmed by the great folks at SHAW TV, partnered with Travel Alberta (we hope to be able to share more about this soon), enjoyed our first repeat guest and hosted a breadth of folks from around the world including Canada, the Netherlands, Australia, Ireland, Texas, Pennsylvania and California.

A special thank you to our great friends at Tourism Calgary and here’s hoping everyone has a great Stampede.

Yahoo,

Scott and Joanne
