CalgaryWalks at The Bow Official Opening
Last week you may have seen some posts on our Twitter or Facebook, or perhaps elsewhere in the media, about the official opening of Western Canada’s tallest building, The Bow.
Our guides -and Co-Founders- Scott and Joanne were both at the ceremony and had a wonderful afternoon being part of a historic moment for Calgary. For those who couldn’t make it, here is Joanne’s firsthand recap of the afternoon:
“My perspective was somewhat from the onlooker’s view as I had just come from a tour. Lots of folks were out for lunch hour sitting on the stone perimeter around the square, which very much had the feeling of a gathering place. Curious passers-by would have noticed the podium and the 50 or so chairs assembled by the head waiting for a speaker. A multitude of schoolchildren entered the square and the teachers sat them on the ground of the plaza ready to take in the events.
Sun warm and strong breeze prevailing, excitement and anticipation were really in the air for sure. Mayor Nenshi entered the square and he was snapping photos of Jaume’s [Jaume Plensa’s] Wonderland head, and he had several photographers snapping him, while he snapped the Sculpture.
Then the First Nations drummers began with a brief prelude followed by speakers. Then out of the blue came the big bang of fire works…..very exciting….proud moments for all of us as Calgarians. It was pretty spectacular with backdrop of a huge screen and sound system highlighting Bow construction over time. Many of the proud individuals involved in the project were also on hand.”
We’re pleased to feature The Bow in nearly all of our downtown tours. Although we don’t venture inside (no tours allowed just yet), we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with our little known and amazing facts of the building.
See you on a tour soon!
